CM Maryam Nawaz Plans Japanese Water Filtration and Waste Management System in Punjab
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently visited Japan’s largest water filtration and waste treatment plant in Yokohama during her official trip.
She announced that Punjab will bring the same modern technology to the province to provide people with clean drinking water and better waste management.
The Yokohama plant is one of the most advanced in the world. It treats nearly 1.5 million cubic meters of wastewater every day. Along with cleaning water, the facility also produces energy from waste, which helps reduce pressure on other energy sources.
The plant also uses modern methods to separate recyclable materials, so less waste ends up in landfills. Punjab now plans to use these same techniques to improve environmental protection and urban development.
Maryam Nawaz said that giving people access to clean water is one of her government’s top priorities. She added that adopting Japanese technology will make waste management more effective, protect the environment, and improve public health standards.
Officials further explained that this cooperation will focus on practical steps like building modern water treatment plants and introducing advanced recycling systems.
The main goal is to create a sustainable model that provides safe drinking water, supports cleaner cities, and ensures a healthier environment for future generations.
Maryam Nawaz also stressed that Punjab is committed to learning from the world’s best practices. By applying these systems, the province aims to solve long-standing problems of water contamination and poor waste management, while moving closer to global standards in urban development and environmental care.
